The Indian scout personifies the spirit of the motto "SEE, HEED, FATHOM," emphasizing the skills required to assess and locate enemy forces. The lightning bolt represents electronic warfare and signal intelligence. The globe symbolizes worldwide capabilities. The dogwood wreath is a reference to Missouri, the "Show Me State." Red denotes courage and sacrifice.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 27 January 1997. It was amended to reflect the insignia be manufactured and worn in pairs as prescribed in AR 670-1 on 6 March 2002.
